I just wanted to send a reminder out about all of the wonderful digital content available through your Discovery Education subscription.
Don't forget the weekly Global News stories that are published each Wednesday. Global Stories is a segment for K-5 students and covers 2 top news stories for the week. Global Wrap highlights key world events for grades 6-12; however, this may be appropriate for our 4th and 5th graders as well. You can preview the video or the transcript to see if the content works for your group. To access these videos, go to My DE Services after logging onto the Discovery Ed site. Scroll down to the Globals News block on the right side of the page to access the weekly content. Select K-5 Global Stories by clicking on the drop-down arrow in the upper right corner of the Global News window. This is a great way to keep your students global connected on a weekly basis!
Also, Discovery Ed has excellent resources ready for Black History month. Check out their Content Collection full of videos on Bessie Coleman, Rosa Parks, Barack Obama, Martin Luther King Jr., W.E.B DuBois, racial segregation, the Civil Rights Movement, and more. As with all the Content Collections, there is a Spotlight on Strategies (S.O.S.) featured called Reminds Me Of which is excellent for helping students make connections while being able to get up and move. A search for Black History turns up even more content - like the video "Black History: Analyze Historical Figures and Civil Rights" for K-5 students. There's even Lesson Starters and a DE blog post with additional resources and events - like a Virtual Viewing party on February 23rd during which students across the country will share in the story of Ruby Bridges, the first black student to attend an all-white elementary school.
